WorkCover Doctor and Workplace Injury Assessments 

Northmead Medical Centre provides medical assessment, treatment and ongoing support for patients with workplace injuries and work-related illnesses. Our doctors can assess your condition, prepare appropriate medical documentation, coordinate treatment and help develop a safe return-to-work plan.

Initial Consultation

During your initial consultation, the doctor will review: How and when the workplace injury occurred; How current symptoms and functional limitations; Your employment duties and physical work requirements; Relevant medical records, imaging and specialist reports. Any previous injuries or medical conditions affecting recovery

Medical Examination

A medical examination may be performed to assess the nature and severity of your injury. Depending on your condition, further investigations may be arranged, including X-rays, ultrasound, CT scans, MRI scans or blood tests. Your treatment plan may include: Medication; Physiotherapy or exercise rehabilitation; Psychological treatment; Specialist referral; Workplace rehabilitation Modified duties or reduced working hours. Treatment recommendations will be based on your diagnosis, functional capacity and individual recovery needs.​​​​​​​​​

Certificate of capacity

When clinically appropriate, your doctor may complete a NSW workers compensation Certificate of Capacity. The certificate may indicate that you are: Fit for your usual duties; Fit for suitable or modified duties; Fit for reduced hours; Temporarily unfit for work; Any restrictions will be based on your medical condition and may include limits on lifting, bending, standing, driving, repetitive movements or working hours.

Safe Return to Work

Returning to work is often an important part of recovery. Your doctor may work with you, your employer, insurer, rehabilitation provider and treating health professionals to develop an appropriate return-to-work plan. Recommendations may include: Graduated working hours Temporary light duties Restrictions on lifting or repetitive activity Additional rest breaks Ergonomic workplace adjustments Temporary work-from-home arrangements where medically appropriate Your work capacity will be reviewed regularly and adjusted according to your clinical progress.

Ongoing Reviews

Follow-up consultations may be required to: Monitor your symptoms and recovery; Review treatment effectiveness; Update your Certificate of Capacity; Review specialist and allied health reports; Adjust workplace restrictions; Progress your return-to-work plan; Assess readiness to resume normal duties.
